The Fairey Fulmar fighter

Un Fairey Fulmar identico a quello inabissatosi nelle acque di Siracusa, in una foto d'epoca.

Resting on a sandy seabed, at a depth of just 18 metres, lies the wreck of this airplane shot down on 1943, October 18th in the surroundings of Punta Asparano, near Siracusa.
The fuselage bears the serial number N4004, univocally identifying it as a British Fairey Fulmar.

This plane is very likely to have belonged to Squadron 809, embarked aboard the aircraft-carrier HMS Victorious, that was stationed in the Mediterranean at the time of World War Second, just in the same years: one of these lies today on a shallow seabed around Siracusa.
